Notes for Ruben Chaim Fürst
Re'u-Ben (Ruben) bar Iachia-El Henriques (Hinrich) Fürst

Hørte til den portugisiske menighed i Glückstadt, og fik borgerskab der i 1648

* 1607, Hamburg, Tyskland
† 23/2 1689 (evt. 1690), Glückstadt on the Elbe, Holsten, Danmark (nu Tyskland)

Ruben Henriques hørte til den portugisiske menighed i Glückstadt, og fik borgerskab der i 1648.

”The Hebrew inscription on Re’u-Ben’s tombstone in Glücktsadt (viewed by the writer Marc Heymann 2005) says clearly that he was bar Iachia-Jechiel, meaning the son of Iachia-Jechiel (Yachia/Iachia is synonymous with Jechiel/Jegiel). There was only one person – in Glückstadt and its surroundings – who carried the Hebrew name Samuel Yachia/Iachia, namely Alvaro Dinis. According to Jewish custom a person is always identified as being the son of / daughter of a certain father.

On his Matzevah is the symbol of a sword. Thus they had become manufacturers of swords for the Danish military garrison personnel, stationed in Glückstadt.

Re’uben named his 5th child Mordochai in Hebrew. But in the various city and Jewish community registers he is equally mentioned as Marcus and as Marx Ruben/Hinrichs. These 2 names Marcus and Marx are the Germanised form of (Marcos) - Alvaro Dinis’s father, namely Philip De-Nies, alias Shlomo Iachia, alias Salomon Marcos.”
